Cin7 vs Unleashed: inventory software for NZ businesses

Two of the best-known stock management platforms compared for Kiwi product businesses: prices in NZD and USD, order limits, users, manufacturing, onboarding and when you need either.

The short answerCin7 Core starts at US$349 a month and includes thousands of sales orders a year, so it suits high-volume, multichannel sellers. Unleashed starts at NZ$449 a month + GST with 100 sales orders a month included, plus a one-off onboarding fee from $449. It suits NZ product businesses and light manufacturers that want NZD billing. Both connect to Xero and QuickBooks. Under about 100 orders a month, your accounting or store software may be enough.

Which should I pick?

  • You sell across several channels at high volume

    Cin7 Core

    Thousands of sales orders a year are included even on Standard, with unlimited locations and 700+ integrations. Budget for USD pricing and ask about onboarding costs up front.

  • You make or assemble products, and want to pay in NZD

    Unleashed

    Production, warehouse management and advanced inventory planning are all free on Pro, prices and onboarding fees are published in NZD, and it was built in Auckland.

  • You ship fewer than about 100 orders a month from one store

    Probably neither yet

    Your store's built-in stock tracking or your accounting software's inventory may do the job. Xero tracks basic inventory, and MYOB's AccountRight Plus has unlimited items. Move up when spreadsheets start costing you sales.

The full comparison

Cin7 and Unleashed both do the job of proper inventory software: stock across locations, purchase and sales orders, batch and serial tracking, and a connection to your accounts. The real differences are how they charge and who they're built for.

How the pricing really works

  • Cin7 charges in US dollars and builds volume into each plan. Standard includes 6,000 sales orders a year (about 500 a month), 5 users and 2 integrations. Pro and Advanced raise all three.
  • Unleashed charges in NZ dollars and starts with 100 sales orders a month. More orders cost extra: $70 a month for up to 500, up to $490 a month for unlimited. Extra users are $69–$79 a month each.

So at low volume Unleashed is simpler to budget for. At a few hundred orders a month, add up Unleashed's order bundle and extra users before you compare. Cin7's USD price will also move with the exchange rate.

One-off costs. Unleashed publishes its onboarding fees: $449 self-service, $789 standard or $7,999 full. Cin7 offers group, 1-to-1 and partner-led onboarding but doesn't publish what it costs. Ask both for the total first-year cost, including onboarding and support.

If you make things

Both handle manufacturing: assemblies, bills of materials and production.

  • Unleashed Pro includes Production and Manufacturing, the Advanced Inventory Manager (forecasting) and Warehouse Management at no extra cost. On Core they're paid modules ($69, $129 and $149 a month).
  • Cin7 includes MRP from Pro up, and advanced warehouse management on Advanced.

For a small manufacturer, Unleashed Pro's bundle is often the deciding factor.

If you sell everywhere

Cin7 leans into multichannel selling, with over 700 integrations and optional extras such as a B2B portal, POS and AI forecasting. Unleashed connects to Shopify, WooCommerce, Amazon and Lightspeed too, with 3 or 5 basic integrations included and $29 a month for each extra.

Do you need either yet?

Maybe not. Inventory platforms start at several hundred dollars a month, plus onboarding. If you sell from one store and ship fewer than about 100 orders a month, try your store's built-in stock tracking first. Xero has basic tracked inventory, and MYOB's AccountRight Plus has unlimited items. See Xero vs MYOB vs Afirmo vs Hnry.

The signs you've outgrown that setup:

  • selling the same stock in several places and overselling;
  • stocktakes that never match;
  • more than one warehouse;
  • making products from parts.

Offers on now

Both have 14-day free trials. Unleashed is offering 90% off the first 3 months to new customers who subscribe by 30 November 2026, on an initial 3-month contract that then rolls monthly. Offers change, so check the pricing pages on the day.

Questions owners ask

Which is cheaper, Cin7 or Unleashed?

It depends on your order volume. Unleashed starts lower in practice for small volumes: NZ$449 a month + GST with 100 orders a month included. Cin7 Core starts at US$349 a month, which is more in NZD depending on the exchange rate, but it includes 6,000 sales orders a year. At a few hundred orders a month, add Unleashed's order bundles ($70–$490 a month) before you compare.

Does Cin7 charge in NZ dollars?

No. Cin7's pricing page shows US dollars, excluding taxes, to New Zealand visitors too. Your monthly cost in NZD will move with the exchange rate. Unleashed publishes its prices in NZ dollars, excluding GST.

Do Cin7 and Unleashed work with Xero?

Yes. Both connect to Xero and QuickBooks Online, so sales, purchases and stock values flow into your accounts. Both also connect to Shopify, WooCommerce and Amazon. Cin7 lists over 700 integrations, and Unleashed includes 3 or 5 basic integrations depending on plan.

Do I have to pay for onboarding?

Unleashed publishes three one-off onboarding packages: $449 self-service, $789 standard and $7,999 full onboarding. Its pricing page doesn't say whether one is required, so ask before you sign. Cin7 offers group, 1-to-1 and partner-led onboarding but doesn't publish the fees, so get a quote.

When do I need inventory software?

Usually when you sell the same stock in more than one place (a website, a shop, wholesale or a marketplace), when you hold stock in more than one location, or when you make products from components. Overselling, stocktake surprises and hours spent updating spreadsheets are the usual signs. Under about 100 orders a month from one store, simpler tools often do.

Is Unleashed a New Zealand company?

It started as one. Unleashed was founded in Auckland in 2009 and incubated at Massey University's e-centre. It was bought by the UK's Access Group in November 2020, and it has customer success teams in the UK, Australia and New Zealand.
