Privacy statement
The short version: we collect as little as we can, we never sell it, and you can leave any time with one click.

MySMB ("we", "us") respects your privacy. This statement explains what personal information we collect, why, and what we do with it. It's written to meet our obligations under New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020 and its information privacy principles.
Who we are. MySMB publishes the MySMB newsletter and the website at mysmb.co.nz. [Legal entity name and New Zealand Business Number to be added before launch.] You can contact us about privacy at privacy@mysmb.co.nz.
What we collect
- Your email address, when you sign up for the newsletter or the Insiders waitlist. We also record which form you used, which tier you chose (free or Insiders waitlist) and the date you signed up.
- Newsletter engagement information, such as whether an email was delivered and opened and which links were clicked. Our email provider collects this using standard tracking pixels and links.
- Enquiry details, when you use our advertising enquiry form: your name, work email, company and the details you choose to tell us.
- Consulting enquiries, when you book a free consulting call: your name, email, business name, team size, the package you're interested in and what you'd like help with.
- Nomination details, when you nominate a business for Kiwi Wins: your name and email, how you know the business, and what you tell us about it. We contact the owner before featuring anyone.
- Anonymous website analytics. We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and see which pages are useful. It doesn't use cookies and doesn't identify you personally.
- Anything you send us, such as replies to the newsletter or emails to our team.
We don't knowingly collect information from children, and we don't ask for sensitive information.
Why we collect it
- To send you the newsletter and, if you joined the waitlist, Insiders updates.
- To understand what readers find useful, so we can make the newsletter and website better.
- To reply to enquiries and manage sponsorships.
- To follow up Kiwi Wins nominations and arrange consulting calls.
- To keep records of consent, as required by the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007.
- To meet our legal obligations.
We only use your information for these purposes, or for directly related purposes you'd reasonably expect.
Who we share it with
We don't sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we never give subscriber lists to sponsors. We use a small number of service providers to run MySMB:
- beehiiv, which hosts our newsletter and stores subscriber details.
- Resend, which delivers enquiry, consulting and nomination form emails to our team.
- Vercel, which hosts this website and provides anonymous analytics.
These providers are based overseas, mainly in the United States, so your information may be stored and processed outside New Zealand. We choose providers that protect personal information in ways that, overall, provide comparable safeguards to the Privacy Act. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your subscription details while you're subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we keep a minimal record (your email address and unsubscribe date) so we don't email you again by mistake and can show we respected your request. Enquiries are kept for as long as we need them to manage the conversation and any resulting sponsorship, and for record-keeping we're required to do.
Keeping it safe
We take reasonable steps to protect your information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access, including using reputable providers, limiting who on our team can access subscriber data and using secure connections.
Unsubscribing
Every MySMB email has an unsubscribe link. One click and you're off the list, and we'll action it within five working days (usually instantly).
Your rights
You have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it. Email privacy@mysmb.co.nz and we'll respond within 20 working days. We may need to confirm your identity first.
If you have a concern about how we've handled your information, please tell us first so we can try to put it right. If you're not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
Changes
We may update this statement as MySMB grows (for example, when Insiders payments open). We'll post the new version here with the date it changed, and tell subscribers about significant changes.
